Hi Friends! September surely flew by. We hit the ground running as soon as we got back from Maui. There’s always this busy rush during the seasonal shift. Lots of post-vacay catching up at work, brand projects, birthdays, and Natalie starting her junior year of high school. Finally getting my bearings and feeling very excited about fall! I’m starting to crave all the cozies and have this undeniable thirst for newness—and along with it the urge to shop.
Change is invigorating so we buy new things as a way to maybe celebrate it or mark the occasion. Over the years I’ve learned to lean into the excitement of a new season by styling things I already own before turning to retail therapy. I find that this is just as satisfying as shopping the latest arrivals. I take note of current trends that resonate with me, then head into my closet to pull pieces that reference the essence of those trends. Because it’s less about a specific thing and more about the idea and feeling it gives off.
Touches of suede
Suede provides a rich textural element that’s equally rustic and elegant. It’s all about the yummy burgundy and brown hues right now, from chestnut to chocolate.
My mom’s vintage Loewe clutch (a forever favorite):

Fluffy Footwear
Spotted some really fun furry shoes at Tibi’s Spring 2025 show and it inspired me to bring out these shearling mules from Jenni Kayne (code ThereseJ15).
Tall Boots
I got this pair of Toteme boots when they launched in 2019. Shiny croc adds a luxe touch that can dress up more matte or casual materials like suede and cashmere. The shaft is quite wide so it’s great worn with pants tucked in and with loose, flowy dresses.
Fair Isle Sweater
I don’t ski but I can après ski! This timeless knit is the definition of hygge and a nod to the preppy look that feels fresh right now. I often come across this style in thrift stores, so I recommend hunting for them in the secondhand marketplace.
Cape Tops
This style feels like a hug. I’ve always loved the idea of capes since they can be a really interesting and versatile layer. This Zara top is from earlier this year. The cape part is attached but I can ruche it up around my neck like a scarf when I need to put arms through a jacket or coat.
Sheer Accents
Weightless layers are still going strong and I’m looking forward to incorporating the pieces I got over the summer into my fall looks. They’re a great way to add texture and depth without the bulk. Planning to wear this dressy outfit to a fancy dinner. The top’s extra coverage feels appropriate for chilly fall nights and the silk organza offers a hint of skin.
Bubble Hems
I’m seeing bubble hem details on tops and bottoms. I love how the volume adds drama and creates a sculptural look.
Workwear Outerwear
Technically this barn jacket is Jeremys but his closet is basically my closet too. There are so many versions of the workwear jacket out right now, from luxe designer to high street. This one by Uniqlo has all the pockets I will ever need, isn’t too thick so it’s great to layer with, has that signature corduroy collar and cozy plaid interior, and it is pretty affordable. I’m wearing a men’s XL which is generously oversized. I love the dramatic volume. Been wearing it most days very casually, but I really like the idea of styling it with dressier pieces for that interesting contrast.
This felt like a great exercise! What are you excited to wear this fall?
Xx,
Therese
